The Melissa was also very powerful software due forced Microsoft and many large companies to turn off their email systems in 1999. The I LOVE YOU virus also affected many computers in 2000.

A virus is a small software or program which is designed to damage computers. It can spread in many ways like it can come in the form of the spreadsheet and whenever you open the spreadsheet, the virus will reproduce itself which in the end will cause havoc.
The virus can easily be sent from on computer to another in the email attachments. These viruses can replicate them when these attachments are opened. Sometimes these viruses can spread even without opening or clicking. These are very dangerous email.

The worms are small programs which can use networks and security holes to replicate itself. The copy of the worms will scan the network for another computer which has specific security hole from where it can make its copy to new computer with security hole.
The Melissa virus spread through Word documents which are sent via email. This virus might be uploaded in the newsgroup and when users download the document, it will attack the computer. This virus will then be sent through email which might be sent to the first 50 person in the address book. This email contains person’s names with friendly note but actually it is a virus. In this way it will create new 50 messages from the computer of the recipient. In this ways it can spread very quickly and it has caused many large companies to shut down their email systems.
The I LOVE YOU virus contained specific code as an attachment which will launch itself when users click it. Then copies of this code will be sent to the persons in the address book and will corrupt the files in the user’s computer. It is a simple virus which can spread like Trojan horse through email.
The Melissa virus was developed by using the programming language VBA used in the Microsoft Word. This language can be used to modify files and send email messages. There are very useful features but it also has auto execute feature as well. The program will be inserted into document which will run when the document is opened. The users will be infected by the Melissa virus if he opens the documents. This virus will be sent to the 50 email addresses and it will then infect main file NORMAL.DOT.
There is also feature of Macro virus protection in the Microsoft application which is built in. You can disable the auto execute feature by tuning on Macro Virus Protection. A dialogue will appear warning the users when document tries to auto execute viral code. Most of the users ignore the dialog when they see it of macros. The other users might also turn off the protection mechanism so in this way Melissa virus can spread very quickly despite of security. The I LOVE YOU spreads only when users click on it.
